I teach intensive reading to 9th and 10th graders. I would love to integrate blogging into the classroom experience. I am not quite sure what to have them blog about, maybe the books we are reading. That might be a good idea. They could share their thoughts on the Bluford series.
Does anyone else have any good ideas?

Hi Ruth -
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea to try to use blogging and the Bluford series. Maybe you could start them out by simply posting a paragraph about their reactions to the story they are reading. Then, they could respond back to other students and possibly offer their character suggestions on how to deal with the problems they are facing in the novels. Once the students are really hooked, have them post a connection they feel to a character and ask them to explain how they relate to the character and or problem.
Good luck ~Maria
Ruth,
ReplyDeleteGetting students to be involved and stay involved in a blog can be tricky. I think having students blog about what they are reading is an excellent idea. Are you going to provide class time for students to post, or will the blogging be outside of class? Another idea is to have students create and post one in-depth question per chapter/section. I have had students post discussion questions before and then used some of them to create their exam.
Best wishes,
Sheryl
